Segregated Proms???

I was lounging at home the other day (an activity of the broke-ass nigga club, lol) and I came across an interesting documentary on HBO. It was called 'Prom in Mississippi.' Charleston, Mississippi is a small town with a population of maybe 2,000 people (the size of my school) and for years they had been having two proms, one for white students and one for black students. The film is about the kids planning their first integrated prom (which Morgan Freeman offers to pay for), but you get insight to thier minds and the way they feel about race and ethnicity. It was interesting to note that the parents were the group who advocated for seperate proms because they were holding on to the old racial customs of the past. It was a shock to see that in 2008 there had not been an integrated prom yet, but the school was integrated. To me that was seriously ass-backwards, but the seniors were not to be blamed. They say its tough to teach an old dog new tricks, but as a parent you can not really feel comfortable with teaching your child to grow up and hate a person of a different color for no reason. There is no validity behind racism or segregation. Older people always want to put down our generation for whatever reason, but we are the most socially unified generation this world has probably ever seen in all of existence. Our strides toward racial unity and equality should definitely be recorded in history books.

If you ever get a chance to watch it I would highly recommend that you do so...and listen to what is being said by these young people and their parents.

Don't judge Vick...

As we all know Mike Vick is finally done serving his sentence for the illegal dog fights he was operating in Atlanta. Even though this is a brown spot on his career as an athlete, I still think he is one of the top competitors the NFL has ever seen. His speed, quickness, and agility made him such a threat to opposing defenses in the NFL. Mike Vick could roll out the pocket and scramble for more than a first down or he could roll out to a pass. The league has reinstated him, but under certain terms and conditions. 1. He can practice and train with a team if they decide to pick him up 2. He will be able to play 2 of the last 4 pre-season games (if he gets signed of course) and 3. He won't be able to play in an actual season game until week 6. Now, in my personal opinion I feel that Mike has been punished enough through being sent to jail so the excess NFL punishment is unnecessary. After week 6 most teams playoff picture will have already started to unfold because most teams will have played almost half their games already. I don't particularly care for the pre-season games anyway because I think the NFL should do away with them and just make the season longer, but he can only play 2 out of 4? Might as well just make him inactive for the pre-season, but allow him active week 1 so he can have the chance to play a complete NFL season. He only has about 3-5 years left in him before he starts to think about retirement so why lessen his playing days? The NFL is showing how ugly it can be because this whole thing is about money and Vick's market value. The media is going to rip him a part (pause) if he can't contribute to a team, but I bet they will glorify him if he makes it to the playoffs with a team. I'm supporting the Mike Vick to the Vikings movement!!! That will put him in a conference with Aaron Rogers, Jay Cutler, and Mat Stafford (or Daunte Culpepper, depending on who wins that battle in Detroit). Definitely some good competition and if the NFL wanted to really make money and promote the image they would get Mike Vick out of his house and on the turf.

In The Sky Time pt. 1

I love following Flight Club on Twitter!!! Especially when they got my size (which is a 13 by the way, wink wink lmao)

Jordan Retro 1's are with out a doubt the illest pair of J's you could own...well maybe second illest cause I got a special place in my heart for the 11's. I had a pair of all white 1's low cut in 2004. Definitely brought them with me to Jamaica and that was it for them LOL, but I saw Elephant Man and Sean Paul in the airport. Didn't have any paper so I got a pen and made them sign my J's. They should be laying around the crib somewhere...

Elephant Man signed it normally and put the year on it but Sean Paul drew a head with a blunt in the mouth. If I can find them pics will be up...

The struggle...

To go to work or not to go to work? That has been my question over the last couple of weeks. I was working at K-Mart as a regular associate doing a variety of tasks from cashiering to working the floors helping out customers. However, as I analyzed my situation I realized that driving from the Bronx to White Plains (gas expense), buying lunch or something to drink, and buying new clothes or sneakers could not be done alone on a minimum wage basis. On top of that the people I had to deal with (management) were the dirtiest and grimiest of people I have ever encountered, but I digress. Needless to say, I did what any young college student would have done if they didn't like the position they were in...I quit! Of course I was faced with the popular ridicule and patronizing. "what are you gonna do for money," and "you can't just quit your job," oh and my absolute favorite "your going to have a lot of jobs in your life that you don't like." Really? Are we all destined to struggle and toil at a job we don't like? I thought that's why I apply for loans every year to make up the difference for a college tuition so that I can be put in a better position to obtain a job that I ACTUALLY enjoy. I feel like my summer's are for me now to revive myself and prepare myself for the next year of college. Unfortunately, my "relaxed" view of society is frowned upon and my punishment is not having a constant flow of the green paper with white faces on it. So there in lies my struggle and possibly the struggle which most people have...you can either work everyday and be miserable, but reap the minor benefits of having money (clothes, sneakers, phones, etc.) or you could just simply chill. If you work you earn money, but as fast as you make it the quicker you give it right back and start all over again at square one (being broke!) If you don't work your always at square one, but your lack of production causes you to be seen as value-less...Pick your poison.
